Patina refers to the thin layer that forms on the surface of a material over time due to exposure to environmental elements. It is often seen on metals, such as copper, bronze, brass, and silver, as well as on other materials like wood and stone.

Silver Patina: Silver can tarnish over time, forming a dark layer on its surface. While tarnish is technically a form of patina, it is usually not as desirable for silver as a bright, polished surface.

Caring for silver jewelry is important to maintain its luster and prevent tarnish. Here are some instructions for taking care of your silver jewelry:

Store Properly:

Store silver jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Use airtight bags or containers to minimize exposure to air, which can contribute to tarnishing.

Avoid Exposure to Harsh Chemicals:

Remove silver jewelry before swimming, bathing, or using household cleaning products.

Avoid contact with perfumes, hairsprays, and cosmetics, as they can accelerate tarnishing.

Clean Regularly:

Clean your silver jewelry regularly to remove any built-up tarnish or dirt.

Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently polish the silver. Microfiber or jewelry polishing cloths are ideal.

Do not use abrasive materials, such as toothpaste or baking soda, to clean silver jewelry, as they can scratch the metal.

If your silver jewelry requires more than a gentle polishing, use a professional mild cleaning solution.

Prevent Tarnish:

To slow down tarnishing, you can place anti-tarnish strips or silica gel packets in your jewelry storage to absorb moisture.

Wear your silver jewelry regularly, as the oils from your skin can help prevent tarnish.

By following these care instructions, you can keep your silver jewelry looking beautiful for years to come.

Agate is a variety of chalcedony, formed within volcanic and metamorphic rocks.
Amaranth (Purpleheart) is a hardwood known for its purple coloration.
Amber is a gemstone of organic origin. It is naturally fossilized resin that has achieved a stable state through the loss of volatile constituents and chemical change after burial in the ground. The hardness of amber falls between 2 and 2.5 on the Mohs scale.
Ashwood is a strong, dense type of wood with a distinct light color.
Bakelite is a phenolic resin. It is the first plastic made from synthetic components by Leo Baekeland in 1907.
Bitumen is a petroleum-based hydrocarbon commonly referred to as asphalt.
Black jet is an organic gemstone occurring as a result of the decomposition of wood from millions of years ago, commonly the wood of trees of the family Araucariaceae.
Boxwood is a hard, heavy, fine-grained wood with a very pleasant tactility, usually white or light yellow, that is obtained from Buxus trees.
Brass is an alloy of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), with a melting point of 900 - 940 °C Celsius, depending on the ratio of components.
Bronze is an alloy consisting primarily of copper, commonly with about 12–12.5% tin and often with the addition of other metals (including aluminum, manganese, nickel, or zinc) and sometimes non-metals, such as phosphorus.

Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of silica, composed of very fine intergrowths of quartz and moganite. It has 6.5-7 hardness on the Mohs scale. Many semi-precious gemstones like agate, chrysoprase, carnelian, and onyx are in fact forms of chalcedony.
Copper (Cu) is a ductile metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. It can develop a huge spectrum of different patinas.
Corian is a synthetic acrylic stone. It is manufactured by mixing acrylic, epoxide, and polyester resins with various pigments and a filler material derived from natural bauxite.
Dinosaur bone (gembone) is an agatized dinosaur bone that occurs when groundwater minerals are deposited within the bones.
Ebonite is a brand name for a material generically known as hard rubber, which is obtained via vulcanizing natural rubber. Its name comes from its intended use as an artificial substitute for ebony wood.
Ebony is a dense black/brown hardwood from several species in the genus Diospyros. It has a very fine texture and a mirror finish when polished.
Felsite is a general term for a type of igneous rock that is characterized by its fine-grained texture. Felsite comes in a variety of colors, including red, pink, purple, gray, and white, it also has very subtle undertones. This stone had intensive use in Soviet modern architecture.
Gold
Gypsum is a soft sulfate evaporite mineral most commonly found in layered sedimentary deposits.
Jasper is a cryptocrystalline variety of chalcedony that is known for its vibrant colors and unique patterns. This relatively hard stone grades 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale.
Mammoth bone is prehistoric woolly mammoth ivory that is anywhere from 10,000 to 200,000 years old and is found in Arctic regions such as Alaska, Canada, Chukotka (or the Chuckchi Penninsula), Yakutia, Magadan, and Siberia where the tusks have been preserved in the permafrost. Commerce in mammoth ivory is completely unrestricted.
Marble is a metamorphic rock consisting of carbonate minerals that recrystallize under the influence of heat, pressure and aqueous solutions, most commonly calcite or dolomite. Marble’s colors can significantly vary depending on the source of origin.
Niello is a deep black mixture of silver, copper, lead and sulfur. Can be used as a black enamel for inlays.
Patina
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is a synthetic polymer derived from methyl methacrylate. It is a transparent thermoplastic, also known as acrylic, acrylic glass, as well as by the trade names and brands
Plexiglas, Lucite, Perspex, etc..
Raw diamond is a gemstone that has not been shaped into any specific form or size by a professional cutter.
Resin is a highly viscous substance of plant or synthetic origin that is converted into polymer, after being cured.
Slate is a fine-grained, metamorphic rock that shows no obvious compositional layering, but can easily be split into thin slabs and plates.
Sterling silver is an alloy composed of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The sterling silver standard has a minimum millesimal fineness of 925.
Synthetic coral
Synthetic corundum is produced from pure alpha aluminum oxide free from potash in an oxyhydrogen flame. The Verneuil process allows the production of flawless single-crystal sapphire and ruby gems of much larger size than normally found in nature
Synthetic ruby see synthetic corundum
Travertine is a form of terrestrial limestone deposited around mineral springs.
Tuff is a type of rock made of volcanic ash ejected from a vent during a volcanic eruption. Tuff can be considered the main stone in Armenia. Depending on the origin, it has the following classification: Ani (orange), Artik (pink, purple), Yerevan ( black, red), Byurakan (pink with black spots)
White copper (Cupronickel) is a copper alloy containing nickel and strengthening elements, such as iron and manganese. The copper content typically varies from 60 to 90 percent.

Yttrium aluminum garnet is a synthetic crystalline material of the garment group. As faceted gems, they are valued for their clarity, durability, high refractive index and dispersion. It has 8.5 hardness on the Mohs scale.
